What does Autism mean to me? As a parent of a 20 year old son with Autism who continues to amaze me; Autism is its own world where each person is affected differently in how they process and respond to stimuli while trying to learn how to live, navigate and be understood in our world. The three steps to helping those with Autism are, Awareness, Acceptance & Inclusion. It is no different than what neurotypical people like us want: We want others to know who we are, we want to be accepted for who we are and we want to be included and not be left out to feel alone. If you have trouble getting someone with Autism to understand you in your world, meet them half way by spending time in theirs!
